For the past year, the Welcome Corps has been at the forefront of a remarkable movement, redefining how Americans can make a difference in the lives of refugees seeking safety and freedom in the United States. It’s been a year filled with compassion, innovation, and a strong sense of community, and I can’t help but feel proud to be a part of it.
Since the Welcome Corps launched, ECDC has been mobilizing its community and affiliate network to sponsor refugees who have been in the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) pipeline.
Through the Welcome Corps, a program of the U.S. Department of State, we have the opportunity to champion private sponsor groups and American communities that showcase the power of unity and compassion. During this first year, private sponsors were matched with refugees, providing a safe and welcoming place for them to call home. And in December, the program expanded, allowing Americans to apply to sponsor refugees they know.
ECDC, which became a PSO in Jun 2023, has been holding weekly information sessions to respond to queries and inform the public. ECDC has started providing resettlement services to support newly arriving families through their sponsors.
