Arlington, Va. (Nov. 7) – ECDC is deeply concerned by recent decisions by DHS to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and the public messaging suggesting that conditions in South Sudan have stabilized. This is a misreading of the situation. Conflict, displacement, and severe hunger continue to endanger civilians. The United Nations Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan recently warned of escalating violence, political instability, and increasing human rights violations. While the 2018 cease-fire offered hope, the reality remains far from peaceful and continues to endanger civilians.
This is a moment that calls for continued protection and support, not its withdrawal.
ECDC urges the Administration to reverse the decision and extend TPS to protect South Sudanese nationals at risk.
