Ethiopian New Year Statement

Arlington, Va. (Sept. 10) – ECDC extends warm Ethiopian New Year greetings to the people of Ethiopia. This season of renewal calls for peace, harmony, and collaboration to secure a brighter future for the nation.

“We congratulate Ethiopians on the completion of the Grand Renaissance Dam, a symbol of vision, execution, and collaboration. We pay tribute to those visionary leaders who dared to dream the impossible and translate their vision into action by mobilizing millions of Ethiopians and home-grown resources. As inheritors of this great vision, we urge all stakeholders to work toward peace so the country and its people may fully benefit from this historic achievement,” said Tsehaye Teferra (PhD), President and CEO.

ECDC remains committed to restoring hope through education in rural Ethiopia and supporting vulnerable communities, including drought-affected villages, farmers, and displaced families.

At the same time, we hope that Ethiopia’s leadership will urgently address the tragic loss of life caused by conflict and displacement, both internally and externally. We remember the thousands of lives lost at sea, as well as the countless more in refugee camps and temporary shelters, and we renew our call for lasting solutions rooted in peace and dignity.

May the year ahead bring healing, unity, and progress for Ethiopia and its people.

Happy Ethiopian New Year!

About ECDC’s Overseas Programs:

ECDC, a tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) established in 1983 in Virginia, USA, has been supporting refugees and immigrants in rebuilding their lives in the United States for 42 years.

In addition to its U.S. programs, ECDC provides humanitarian assistance and educational services in the Horn of Africa, particularly in Ethiopia and Sudan, where it is a registered non-profit with branch offices in Addis Ababa and Axum. Its Overseas Program focuses on restoring hope through education—rebuilding schools in conflict-affected areas, providing food, cash, medicine, and seeds to vulnerable families, and partnering to support Ethiopian refugees in a Sudanese camp. So far ECDC has built two schools, a library and is currently restoring its 4th school in northern Ethiopia.
