Arlington, Va., October 23 – ECDC applauds President Biden for recently signing the Presidential Determination on Refugee Admissions, allowing up to 125,000 refugees to be admitted to the United States in Fiscal Year (FY) 2024. This decision reaffirms the United States’ commitment to refugee protection and is another needed step in rebuilding the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program.
“This announcement is a testament to American values and reflects the United States’ longstanding commitment to providing refuge to those fleeing persecution and violence”, said ECDC President Dr. Tsehaye Teferra.
ECDC especially welcomes the allocation of up to 50,000 admissions for refugees from Africa, where recent conflicts and climate change have raised needs to a greater level than ever before.
The President’s announcement must be followed by determined action to enable refugee admissions to reach the 125,000 goal. ECDC looks forward to doing its part in ensuring the success of this vital American program.
