Arlington, Va. (Nov. 24) – ECDC’s branch offices in Denver, Colorado; the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area; and Houston, Texas, celebrated Thanksgiving this past weekend with their annual Refugees’ First Thanksgiving events, drawing hundreds of newly arrived refugee families from Afghanistan, Ukraine, El Salvador, Ethiopia, and other countries for evenings of food, culture, and community connection.
Arlington, Va. (Nov. 7) – ECDC is deeply concerned by recent decisions by DHS to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and the public messaging suggesting that conditions in South Sudan have stabilized. This is a misreading of the situation. Conflict, displacement, and severe hunger continue to endanger civilians. The United Nations Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan recently warned of escalating violence, political instability, and increasing human rights violations. While the 2018 cease-fire offered hope, the reality remains far from peaceful and continues to endanger civilians.
