The recent spike in Mpox cases across Africa has prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a global health emergency. This year, the continent has reported over 15,000 suspected and confirmed cases, with 537 fatalities, exceeding the previous year’s numbers and leading to the declaration. A new virus variant, clade 1b, has surfaced in the eastern regions of the Central African Republic and has been detected for the first time in other nations, including Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda, affecting at least 13 African countries.
