Arlington, Va. -The SHERR (Supporting Higher Education in Refugee Resettlement) program, in which ECDC is a consortium partner, organized a national workshop in early November. The workshop drew participation from representatives of all national refugee resettlement agencies, 65 higher education institutions, federal and state agencies, and non-profit organizations.

Arlington, Va., November 16, 2023 – ECDC’s branch office, the African Community Center (ACC) DC Metro will host its 11th annual Refugees’ First Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday, November 19, at the Silver Spring Civic Center in Maryland, which will offer a unique experience to the hundreds of refugees it has resettled this year in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia metro areas.
ECDC is saddened to announce the recent passings of two of its board members, board chairman Gebreselassie Gebremariam, and vice chairman Dr. Henning Leidecker, Jr.
Henning was born on September 9, 1941. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physics and a minor in philosophy from The Catholic University of America in 1963. He earned a Ph.D. in Physics in 1968 with a dissertation entitled “The Temperature and Frequency Dependence of the Dielectric Response of Linear Polymers Computed Using Two-Time Temperature-Dependent Green Function.”
Gebre was born in Embasineyti, Adwa, Tigrai, in northern Ethiopia, on August 25, 1942, to his father Gebremariam Hadgu, and his mother Leteset Tesema.
