The Mutual Assistance Associations Innovations in Technical Assistance (MITA) is the Office of Refugee Resettlement's (ORR) national technical assistance program provided through ECDC. In 2009, ECDC was awarded funding from ORR to provide innovative Technical Assistance (TA) to selected Ethnic Community-Based Organizations (ECBOs) and Mutual Assistance Associations (MAAs) by helping them to develop their capacity to aid community members’ long-term integration in the United States.
The goal of this initiative is to provide intensive one-on-one technical assistance in order to enhance their capacity to serve more refugees with comprehensive, quality services that are well managed and well-resourced. Five areas of capacity-building are targeted: strategic action planning, resource development and fund-raising, organizational leadership, management, and accountability. ECBOs that are serving refugees according to ORR's definition and provisions are eligible to apply for the MITA program, regardless of whether they have now or in the past received funding from ORR.
