Strengthen Community-Based Organizations

The Mutual Assistance Associations Innovations in Technical Assistance (MITA), funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), is a national technical assistance program to strengthen ethnic community-based organizations. In 2009, ECDC was awarded funding from ORR to provide innovative Technical Assistance to selected ethnic community-based organizations (ECBOs) and Mutual Assistance Associations (MAAs) by helping them to develop their capacity to aid community membersí long-term integration in the United States.

The goal of this initiative is to provide technical assistance to enhance ECBOís capacity to serve more refugees with quality services that are well managed and well resourced. Fiive areas of capacity- building are targeted: strategic action planning, resource development and fundraising, organizational leadership, management, and accountability. ECBOs that are serving refugees according to ORR's definition and provisions are eligible to apply for the MITA program, regardless of whether they have now or in the past received funding from ORR.
