Raising a Collective Voice:
Newcomers, Partners, and Communities

Conference Description

ECDC’s annual national conference provides a singularly unique forum that looks at refugee and immigrant issues in the United States with a special focus on African newcomers. The conference is part of ECDC’s public education efforts reflecting our ongoing commitment to create sustained awareness of and support for refugee and immigrant needs locally and globally. These efforts are designed to promote cultural, educational, and socio-economic well-being, and ultimately result in helping newcomers, especially African newcomers, to the United Sates become active and productive members of their communities.

Each year, the conference features distinguished speakers and discussants who present on current topics and issues of interest. National leaders in refugee affairs, policy-makers, and academics meet to exchange ideas and share insights with participants. Leaders and members of local and national community organizations share best practice experiences while federal partners and international humanitarian organizations provide important updates. The conference facilitates this networking with the aim of strengthening resettlement programs and services and providing an opportunity for professional renewal and fellowship among agencies and advocates of refugee and immigrant concerns, especially those of African newcomers. ECDC’s National Resettlement Affiliate Network Training continues to be an important component of the annual conference.
